Angello Cruz
Angello Cruz began his licensing journey in 2018 as one of the first participants in the conversation that founded the group we now know as KCDC. Angello has been a skilled tradesman for over 25 years and has come to Kalamazoo to help develop the community that welcomed him with open arms.
In partnership with the City of Kalamazoo as well as local organizations such as HBA, LISC, KBMA, and Room35, Angello was able to provide a perspective of a contractor who has faced many challenges in pursuit of his residential builders license. With the input of Angello and the other contractors and developers that came to the table, many of the largest barriers were discussed and plans were created to begin dismantling those, one by one. With access to capital, licensing requirements and business exposure being at the top of the list, addressing these barriers that minority contractors were up against turned from a monthly conversation into an ongoing task force.
Now that Angello Cruz has passed his residential builders exam and obtained his license, he plans to remain a member of the group, mentoring others who are pursuing their license. As the owner of AGL, he is excited for the future of his company as well as the future of KCDC.
